Cultural IQ: Map the world
In place of the remaining "Summaries of Experience" (110 points) you will have most of the semester to learn the locations of as many of the 196 countries in the world as you can. On April 8 we will dedicate a 1/2 hour of class to a fill-in-the-map (no notes) activity.

Check the below linked wikipedia crowd-sourced list of worldwide diasporas to see if your "target culture" is represented. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_diasporas
If your target culture is represented look at the reasons for the migrations and see if there are cultural values and practices that may have sprung from those migrations. Example: For years, in the aftermath of the Armenian Genocide, Armenians across the planet had no nation of their own. As a result, Armenian diasporic communities are deeply focused on the transmission of their culture to the next generation. In Armenian communities in the US Armenian schools emphasize the teaching of Armenian language, culture and values (example here).
Wikipedia is appropriate for this type of research because people who have been scattered often have no political power and are underrepresented in "official" histories. Crowd sourcing allows people with little to no power to share their knowledge.
