Web project 13: Using modern media to aid in behavior change
STEP ONE
We live in an increasingly electronic, interactive, experiential world full of hot media. Methods of persuasion now available to advertisers and big media seem limitless but the information power structure has been leveled by user generated content and social networking. Now regular people have access to more information and resources than ever before. BJ Fogg, director of the Stanford Persuasive Technologies Lab, has developed a Behavior Model to help people create change in themselves or others. At the beginning of the semester you tried out his Behavioral Change Wizard.
Read his article regarding the dramatic changes in persuasion over the last decade here: http://www.thersa.org/fellowship/journal/archive/summer-2009/features/new-rules-of-persuasion
Then, visit the website where he explains the model here: http://behaviormodel.org/index.html
STEP TWO
Visit the Stanford Persuasive Technologies Lab Resource Page. Browse the three pages and find a resource that is of interest to you. View or read the resource before moving on to the next step.

Directions
Answer the following questions in homework:
- What are the strengths of Dr. Fogg's model?
- Did you find his Behavioral Change Wizard helpful? Why or why not?
- Which resource from the Stanford Persuasive Technologies Lab Resource Page did you view? Was the resource helpful? Why or why not?
- Develop your own model of electronic persuasion for our increasingly electronic, interactive, experiential world full of hot media. Since it is a MODEL you need to include a diagram as well as an explanation in your homework.
- Compare and contrast Dr. Fogg and Seth Priebatsch's approaches to persuasive technologies, using relevant evidence from each to support your discussion.
